Tired of reading, then listen.

Toke Makinwa born 3 November, 1984 is a Nigerian radio personality, television host, vlogger, and author. She is a co-host of the ‘The Morning Drive’ on Rhythm 93.7 FM and her YouTube vlog series Toke Moments and also known for her book, ‘On Becoming’.

Makinwa was born on 3rd November 1984 in Lagos state. She is the second out of four children – 3 girls and a boy. Her parents, Caleb and Modupe Makinwa died in a gas explosion while Toke Makinwa was 8 years old. After the death of her parents, Toke and her siblings moved into the house of her eldest aunt, in Ikoyi, Lagos.  She went to high school in Federal Government Girls’ College Oyo, Oyo State and graduated from the University of Lagos where she earned her Bachelor of Arts in English Language and Literature. She started her career as a radio presenter on Cool FM in 1999 which was short-lived.  She had a chance to anchor a Saturday morning programme which was targeted to the teenagers. But her parents were never in support, so they called off her career. Though Makinwa eventually got the job at Cool Fm, her parents were not aware but unfortunately, she was heard by her mother on the radio while driving, and that was how she ended her four months experience.

Regardless of the fact she wasn’t supported to becoming an OAP by her parents, it never killed her dreams.

After she left Cool FM she went to the university and then travelled to London after her graduation hoping to try entertainment for a career. But I guess her passion was drawn to OAP. She returned to Nigeria after a failed attempt in the entertainment career.

Makinwa got back home after a while, got a job at Zenith Bank which but her love for the media was in-separable and she refused to let that dream she has nurtured die. In 2010, fate smiled on her as, her long lived dream of returning back to the radio scene came alive when she got a job with Rhythm 97.3 FM as an On-Air Personality.
